Lower back pain, particularly if severe, can affect your normal daily functions and quality of life. About 70 to 85 percent of people will be affected from back pain at some time in their lives. Unfortunately, many of these cases of back pain become chronic and refractory to many forms of lower back pain treatments. We specialize in evaluation and management of challenging cases, which have failed many lower back pain treatment modalities including surgery. We offer our patients state-of-the-art, highly-specialized interventional pain management options. Our track record of excellence on effective lower back pain treatment that has helped improve the lives of many of our patients. In addition to back pain treatment, we offer evaluation and treatment for neck and back pain , migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica and post laminectomy syndrome (failed back surgery syndrome).

Lower back pain treatments at our clinics may utilize a variety of sophisticated techniques other than surgery. The main goal of our approach is to reduce pain, strengthen the spine and help restore its proper function trying to avoid surgery or narcotics whenever possible. Our general approach in the implementation minimally invasive techniques is their efficacy. Our general policy is that if a treatment is “better than a placebo” as shown in controlled clinical trials and better than other treatments for a certain painful condition, as well as safe, it will then be included as part of our lower back pain treatment program. We emphasize individual patient care and do not believe in the “one size fits all” types of lower back pain treatment (such as “laser surgery”, non-surgical decompression, etc.). Depending upon various factors (such as age, health, medical history, extent of the condition, tolerance for medications, etc.), Dr. Pappolla and his team will find the best treatment tailored to the particular patient’s condition.

Dr. Pappolla is an MD with medical residencies and fellowships training in multiple areas including Pain Medicine (Anesthesia-based) and Neurology as well as Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology. In addition, he holds active board certifications in five disciplines of medicine and has served as a consultant for the National Institutes of Health for over 20 years. He works closely with local orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, family practice doctors and internal medicine doctors to assist in the management of challenging cases.
